Jane Austen lived comfortably until her father died, and she had nowhere to go. Eventually she moved to a cottage where she began to write her books. Charles Dickens was a poor boy who from the start had to make his own money. When he got an editing  job he started to write. They wrote very differently, but both showed their lives through their books. Jane’s books were more happy, and Charles’ books are more sad and depressed.

A little baby girl was born to the Austen's on December 16 1775 in Steventon, Hampshire. Her name was Jane Austen. She lived in a comfortable house with her mother, father, brothers and sister. When Jane’s father died, she and her mother and sister had nowhere to live. They were poor, because at the time women could not inherit money . If they were not married they would have nowhere to go. Finally Jane’s brother gave them a small cottage that he owned. This is where Jane began to write. She was now comfortable and able to make up love stories based on the world that she lived in. Some of her most famous books are Pride and Prejudice, Emma, and Sence and Sense Ability.   She did not write her name on the books. She instead wrote, “written by A Lady.” People loved the stories. Unfortunately Jane Austen died on July 18, 1817 because of Tuberculosis. People did not know who was the amazing author until her brother told the world who had written these fabulous and breathtaking stories.

Charles Dickens was born on February 7, 1812 to the Dickens. Charles’ family was extremely poor. When Charles was just a little boy his father went to jail for racking up debts. Charles had to quit school so he could work at a factory because he did not have enough money to survive. His own childhood is where he got  the idea for his books. When he was a young man he became the editor for the weekly paper. He started to like writing. When he grew up he married and had children. He had already written many of his books, such as Oliver twist, Great expectations and A Christmas Carol. Unfortunately for his wife he fell in love with a young and beautiful actress whom he married. When he was on a train with his lovely new wife the train crashed and many were injured. He helped take care of them. His last book was “ The Mystery of Edwin Drood”. After that, on June 9, 1870 he died at the age of fifty-eight.

Jane Austen and Charles Dickens wrote very differently, but both wrote based on their lives. Jane Austen’s characters were always dancing, drinking tea, and falling in love. Charles Dickens' characters were almost always working, suffering and dying. In Pride and Prejudice the biggest conflict is Lydia’s flirt with Wickham. Whereas in Oliver Twist people are shot and stolen from. Jane Austen grew up with much more money than Charles Dickens. Life in Jane’s books are happy, delightful, and gossiping. But life in Charles Dickens's stories is scary, hateful and fearsome.

Both Jane Austen and Charles Dickens wrote different stories, but they both wrote about their lives. Jane grew up with her family and no struggle.  Charles grew up in the worst part of town. Their stories are just like their lives - different and alike.
